Questions people ask first

How do I send my job?

Use the form on this site or open the chat. Say what has happened, what sort of door it is and where you are, and the fixed price comes back to you before we set off.

We answer any hour, day or night.

Will you damage my door getting in?

Non destructive entry comes first wherever it is possible, which means the door and the lock stay as they are and you are not paying for a new one.

Some locks cannot be opened that way. Where drilling is the only route we tell you before we set off, rather than on the doorstep once someone is standing there.

How do I know the price before you start?

Every job is priced before we set off. The price depends on the job and on the time band: day, evening and weekend, or night. A lockout opened without damage is £95 by day, £130 in the evening and at weekends and £150 at night.

If the price is not right for you, nothing happens and nobody travels.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Telling you what the job involves and what it costs is part of sending your job. The price is fixed before we set off, so you know the figure before a van moves and before anyone touches the door.

Do you cover my area?

ESL Locksmiths covers Lewisham, Catford, Hither Green, Brockley, Blackheath, Lee, Forest Hill, Deptford and Ladywell.

If you are somewhere else in south London, send your job and say where you are.

My key has snapped in the lock. Can it be taken out?

Often it can, and without replacing the lock. Removing a snapped key is £85 by day, £120 in the evening and at weekends and £150 at night.

Say what sort of door it is when you send your job. A uPVC door on a multipoint mechanism and a wooden door on a mortice lock are two different jobs.

I have been broken into. Can you make the door secure again?

Yes. Securing the door and changing or upgrading the locks after a burglary is one of the jobs we do. Say what has been forced or damaged and what sort of door it is.

The price for making it secure is fixed before we set off, with any parts named.

My uPVC door will not lock. Is the mechanism gone?

It often is. A uPVC door that lifts but will not throw its lock, or that has gone stiff against the frame, usually points at the multipoint mechanism rather than the cylinder.

Realigning or adjusting the door is £110 by day. Where the gearbox or mechanism has to be replaced, the part is added and named before we set off.

Do you work nights and weekends?

Yes. We answer any hour, day or night. Evening and weekend work is £130 for a lockout opened without damage, and night work from 10pm to 8am is £150.
